I am kind of curious to see how just a base-plate effects the handling. I can't make my mind up whether I'd rather have a front grip or not, but unfortunately I'm certain I don't want the RRS front grip. It just looks hideously uncomfortable, and hideous in general. I could see the extra height of the plate being enough to give me just the touch extra security I'm after though.
Having a good solid tripod attachement I don't have to take off to change the battery/card is definitely a big plus as well.
For me the baseplate improves the handling but this is subjective and will vary with each person. I searched Amazon and Ebay for the baseplate/L-bracket/grip Chinese combo, like I had with the X-T2, that would fit an X100/X100S. I was surprised that there were none on Amazon but I found this baseplate/L-bracket/grip combo on Ebay. Like mine, the grip and L-bracket are held on with Allen screws and can be removed. Free E-packet shipping from China but like something else I ordered, you are probably looking at around two to three weeks for delivery. $18.98 USD

You have to look carefully because the X100/X100S have the same body but the X100T and X100F each get larger with slightly different shapes and their baseplates will not fit the X100/X100S or each other. There are loads of plates available for the T or F but not for the older X100 and X100S.--
Yea, I've been struggling to find one for the X100 I like. The grips all bulge out to the side and the base seems to bulge out with it so you end up with an awkward bit sticking out if you remove the grip.
Do you know how much the bodies vary? If it's just a case that the F and T have a curve at the bottom for the grip then I'm happy to fill that in with something. If it's that they are bigger all round and it won't be secure though then obviously there's little point.
