Honestly, can you tell the difference between FF and APS-C?

I suspect that much of the differences that people ascribe to technological superiority of the FF sensor in the 5DIV and the APS-C sensor in the 7DII is actually down to the lens. I have been shooting on a crop sensor with the Sigma 50-100 f/1.8 lens and in all honesty, I am not sure that I could tell by looking at the pictures that they are shot on a crop sensor, even when printed, and even when blown up. If I put the images side by side with a FF camera, I might notice some difference (there is no FF direct equivalent lens but the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II comes close).

When you look at an image, do you have a preference of the "FF look" vs "APS-C" look? Can you even tell the difference if the images are not side by side? Can you tell the difference if the images ARE side by side?

I'll be the first to admit, in most cases, I simply cannot.
