I didn't even know about the AF issue with Sony; in my brief experience with a Sony A6500, I was completely blown away by the AF performance. Coming from a Pentax K-30 it was a revelation to shoot people, kids, etc. in normal motion (candid photos), even in low light it just locks on and gets crisp shots every time.

That said, I sold me nearly brand new A6500 and lenses because I realized that:
A) Sony does not support APS-C with good lenses.

B) Sony FF lenses are extremely expensive and so big that they negate the benefits of using a small mirrorless body like the A7III or A7R series.

C) The Sony build quality just doesn't feel robust to me; "toylike" is how I would describe the A7R3 and the A6500 that I tried out, even compared to my K30.

So considering my style of shooting (landscapes, portraits, candids), I bought a K-1 Mark II and sold off my Sony Mirrorless gear.  The cost to buy all new Sony lenses to go with a new A7III would have been significantly higher and I just didn't enjoy shooting with the Sony bodies despite the consistently great results.
