Re: Nervous nellie...go with Pentax K-1 or move to Sony FF?

Hello yiangelo

I do not know the future of Pentax, I will only mentioned a point about the Sony FF:

For that I use this example:

It's a f3.5 at 103mm low light picture, taken with a APS-C camera, the K5.

When I use now my K1 for that, my lens could still capture the same picture, now @ 154.5mm, because it's a 80-200mm and FF lens. For to reach the same DOF like in the picture above (and it's DOF is already very thin) I had to close the aperture about one stop more, when I would use the K1.

The Sony is for sure a great camera, but sadly, when you use AF-C, the camera stop down the lens to the aperture you use, and as DP's review mentioned, it can miss focus than !!! We see in that review only one example for that, all other examples are mostly with the lens full open, so maybe ask Sony users, if you would get really in trouble at such apertures and low light situations. I, personally, have no interest in such a stop down implementation and would not use such a camera for situations like above. I would not buy a camera where I have to use it with the lens full open for to get the best possible AF result. But please check if users of this Sony cameras do get really into such AF troubles, like DP did described it.

And, hands down, for me personally, the IQ advantage of the FF 24MP Sony A 7 III is not high enough, compared, for example, to the IQ of the 24MP APS-C Pentax KP camera. This IQ different is for me too small, that it could justified the nearly double prize and the needed use of the bigger and more expensive FF lens.

best regards KPM2
