Now you can download SIGMA Photo Pro 6.6.0

I took an SD! Merrill and processed it with SPP5.5. I saved the settings in the X3F file. I then oppened 6.6, changed my X3F setting from Auto to Default X3F. I opened 6.6 and set my applicable adjustment to "X3F" and loaded the iimage. Despite having "X3F" checked in preferences, it selected "Custom" which was a completely different set of tonal adjustments. So I entered them manually and reprocessed the imge WB was AWB

I repeated the test with two new images. Same thing happened with 6.6 - it chose a custom set and not X3F. I changed to X3F and it picked up the correct settings. WB was sunlight.

I used LAB in photoshop with magnification set at 3200 so that i could matdh on a pixel basis. On both images I had minor differences in the LAB numbers. Often only 1 or 2 points but 3-6 not uncommon. I could not find any pattern. The sunlight shot seemed to have more differences.

I can't see any difference in the sets but my color perception is so-so.

Here are both sets:

Are you saying that SPP 6.5.5 did work in a virtual machine in Linux, but SPP 6.6.0 does not, because the new version of SPP 6.6.0 is actually 64 bit, and SPP 6.5.5 was a 32 bit program? Do you think there is a solution available for some version of Linux? Are there no virtual machines available for Linux that can run 64 bit windows programs?

Spp6.5 works under wine in linux in 32 bit mode spp installer contains both 32bit and 64. Spp6.6 only 64. I was using win7 in vm for SPP 6.5.5 was slow but workable SPP6.6 beyond slow on macbookpro i7 with ssd

Appreciably faster on my Mac Pro tower, but it is a bit old (been upgraded over the years)... mid 2010 2.8Ghz quad core 16 Gig Ram & 1Tb SSD running 10.11.6 if it runs slower on your machine and everything is set correctly it may be best to go back to SPP 6.5.5 and skip this version.

I understand your annoyance, but I did not make my statements lightly. If there's such a big difference between your SPP versions, then there must be a bug.
See my samples below. There is no difference. Check your settings.

I can't quite follow what you wrote since I am so new to this program but I was talking about initial default settings in each program. I will re-read your reply to try and figure it out this weekend.

Thanks Rick...

Thanks for your reply. While the images are nice perhaps you could mention how you processed them. I am new to Sigma and SPP and and trying to figure this out.

Paul, may I suggest you make a copy of whatever file you're using (to be safe), process it in SPP 5.5.3 (or whatever flavor of SPP you are already using), and then save the changes you make to the raw file or at least save a preset. I don't know if that preset will be available to you in SPP 6.6.0, because I don't know if SPP 6.x is capable of using settings from SPP 5.x, but if you try it will be informative to you and us too. You might try setting default settings for one version of your file too (everything in the middle - both in noise settings and in exposure and color settings). With the default settings version, please set the white balance yourself to shade, cloudy, or daylight, and then do the same thing with a default settings version that you will make in SPP 6.6.0. When you're saving, please make your jpegs in sRGB color with level 11 or 12 compression. Then post them here for us. If you can make screen-shots of each set of processing settings it would be really nice too, as you can see what I have done in my post about SPP 6.6.0 at SigmaPhotoPro.com last night.

I'm very interested in your results, because you have me really curious. I'm considering enhancing my post about SPP 6.6.0, but that would require me to install an old version of SPP on the Mac Mini that I use sometimes, in order to experiment the way I have described above, and I'd rather not, if it's not necessary.

I ran the test with 5.5 and saved the settings to the X3F file. So if my 6.6 settings are set to open the file using the file's settings (X3F), 6.6 should pick up what has been stored by 5.5 and the "X3F" under "Current Unsaved Settings" should be checked (curcular ball). In my case, at least the first one, 6.6 did not have X3F checked after opening, but had custom checked and used a completely different set of adjustments. In the second test and subsequent ones "Custom" was checked but the X3F settings were used. I can't explain why the first test used different settings but this is what may have happened to you. Also after closing the image but not saving anything, and then re-opening it, the "X3F" box was checked.

When I get time I will try 6.5.4.

This may start a civil war, but always use the latest version. The engine for any particular camera series is always retained and sometimes/often there are new features that can be used by all or most versions. I still have my SD9 images but I use whatever SPP I currently have.
Agree totally.
And now for a word from my Texas cousin Ted . . .
.. in fearful anticipation.......... ;-)
A bit late with that crack, George.

You probably missed my comment because Laurence posts on top and I post at bottom, LOL. After a few rounds of that and leaving all the signatures in, nobody knows who said what to whom ...

Should I still be using v. 5 for my dp2m? I have tried both and see some differences. Any input?
