New X-T20 looking for starting ideas / settings
Apr 27, 2018
Just picked up an X-T20 today, with this 2 lens kit (16-50, 50-230) and grip. I picked it because of my positive experience with my X100S. So, now I'm looking for inputs on set up, accessories to get - Things like screen protector, batteries (Wasabi presumably), etc. I picked the 2 lens kit partially to get the wider lens (16mm vs 18mm), partly because the 16-50 is lighter, and partly because Best Buy has that kit for only $1200 which makes the Telephone and grip only $200 where as the separate price of them is over $500.
I'll be taking the camera on a 3 month cross country bike trip starting in June; mostly for landscape shots, but some wildlife - at least that's the initial use.
I plan to leave the AC charger home, and charge via USB. Sometimes directly from a wall-wart, sometimes from a power bank, if no power is available and charging is needed.
That leads to the first question - Those of you who have charged from a External battery / Power Bank, do you have a feel for how much power bank power is needed to charge a battery. Yes, I know the X-T20 battery is 1200 mAHr, but I'm assuming so loss. I ask as I will be buying a bank for the trip, and it needs to also support my phone, assuming there will be times we are 3 days between full AC power. While I wont be taking as many pictures as a typical photographer (I still have to pedal 6 hrs a day!), I need to be ready to deal with draining a battery every 2 or 3 days.
What do all of you do / recommend for protection? a leather case (real or pleather) seems excessive, so what do you do?
Next, the control dials. Are they limited to only doing shutter speed and aperture? Obviously I need one for aperture since the lenses I have dont have aperture rings, but I had hoped to use the other to prehaps adjust ISO. Is that not possible?
Obviously I have a lot of reading to do to digest the manual, which I will do over the next couple weeks.
I don't see any "stickys" on this site, so if there are getting started threads, I don't know how to find them since a search for that and similar words brings up too much to search thru.
Along those lines, any you tube videos or articles that are especially good?
Any other tips or advice are appreciated.
