Wow, I had the same issue with the A7iii and thought I was crazy. The camera would focus on the wrong spot half the time.

A7Riii coming today.

Dang. Hope you enjoy the 7riii!

ALT, how are you liking the A7RIII? I'm thinking making a switch myself from my upcoming a7III to the R.

I love it! I can't really tell a difference in low light performance. I know the AF system technically has less points but it still seems to go to the edges of the frame, and the EVF/lcd screen are SO much better on the riii.

I'm very happy with it!

When you think about it now, would you still go for the a7III instead of the A7RIII (if you had no AF issues) ?

If you're comfortable spending the extra money I'd say most definitely go for the 7riii. I sort of wish I wouldn't have just went this route to begin with.

But, if money is a concern then I'd go with the 7iii. Working examples are incredible cameras. I honestly can't believe that you can buy a camera like that for only 2k. If you would have laid out the performance specs to me back in 2010 and told me I could pay 2k for that, I would have flat out called you a liar.

The advantages of the 7riii are very real, you just pay a premium for them. I love the 7riii more than I thought I would for sure.

Videographers would/should probably choose the a7 III over the R version though because of A7 III's better video capabilities. Just a note.
