M43 sensor, Dark color birds Exposure and PP methods

Nothing seems to beat getting as close as possible and positioning oneself in the best way possible in relation to the available light. But, birds often refuse cooperate!

I’ve been systematically trying different methods of photographing dark colored birds. Spot metering vs center weight, smaller f stop/slower SS/higher ISO vs wider apertures/higher shutter speeds/slower ISO.

So far, sometimes one combination works better than the other, no one best method...

I’ve also been experimenting with the order I apply noise reduction and sharpening. I used to work Camera Raw first and then apply noise reduction. Lately I’ve been applying noise reduction first and then tweaking the file using Camera Raw.

Anybody wants to share what methods are working best for them? Any tricks to PP dark colored birds?

Thanks
