I don't know for sure, but I know that while hiking sometimes the camera IBIS would behave oddly and cause unsharp photos, and doing that body clean has helped every time. It's one of the first things we do when troubleshooting sharpness issues. My guess is that knocks to the body can cause the sensor to get out of alignment, which could also happen during long distance transport.

I can see that happening. But again, the issue wasn't soft pictures. It was the fact that the area you wanted in focus always ended up *behind* the actual focal point.

The cameras made some incredibly sharp pictures. They just weren't sharp where you wanted them to be.
