D850, f1 button asssigned as "Spot metering"

I have used the f1 Custom control assignment to assign Spot metering to the f1 button. Seems to work fine; when I press and hold the f1 button and then press the shutter release the metering temporarily switches to spot metering. When looking through the viewfinder, while pressing just the f1 button, I see the numeric display along the bottom now displays two numbers separated by a hyphen, e.g. "36 - 24". I can't find any reference to this in the various Nikon manuals (or Thom Hogan's book). Can anyone explain what these number mean?
