Adding D850 and selling Leica Q..some thoughts.

When considering a piece of gear to buy or to sell I review my past usage or likely future usage of it. If a lens has not been used at all in the previous 24 months then serious consideration should be given to selling it and putting it into the hands of someone who will make use of it.

In my own case the D750 has been used only once since buying the D850 and the reason was to have smaller RAW files to work with for the pictures I wanted. A 12MP P&S would have sufficed but I use the P&S I have so seldom that the battery needs to be charged each time before I can use it. So it is time to sell the D750 (and some of my lenses).

I owned the Leica 35mm film cameras and Leica lenses but when I made the switch to 100% digital following 9-11 and the creation of the new TSA organization, I sold all my Leica gear. Looking back it was definitely the right decision for me to make.

You’re welcome. I understand your fondness for Fuji. I had sold my X100 which was a mistake, but I recently bought an X100F and it’s a keeper.

Whatever decision you make I’m sure will be a good one.

Just be advised that there is a long waiting list in the U.S. for the D850. My employer purchased one in October...it arrived 3 months later. I ordered one last month and was assured "It's not like that now. We get shipments every week." 4 weeks later I'm told "Nikon hasn't provided an accurate estimate" of when they will ship again. Adorama, B&H, Amazon, Best Buy, Roberts Camera...all are out of stock.

Best Buy eta is May 7th, but is probably more like May 1st.

Thanks.

The Df is a camera I've sold 3 times (not because I didn't like it, but because of circumstances) but I miss it everytime, so I am definitely keeping my current Df. If I were in your shoes, I would sell the D4 and Leica Q to fund the D850 and some glass. A D850 and Df combo will be tremendously versatile and they complement each other as far as features. Your lenses will be interchangeable between bodies as well. That's the direction I would go.

..one major thing to consider is..

..the D4 can take clean low light pictures that the D850 can only dream about..

..if that's something important, then need to consider..

..Cheers..

Interesting...and you would define 'clean low light pictures' as being...?

High ISO is tied to low light because it is tied to low exposure. In other words, low light was used to take those high ISO pictures.

..In my opinion, the real 'mojos' that's placed in the Nikon Pro bodies, such as the D4 D4s D5, will never (maybe harsh word to use) be found in Nikon's lesser cameras..

..so if want the best, then will need to get the best..

..and for folks who has the best, should think twice about giving up the best..

..and these are my opinions.. ;-)
