Bokeh effect - Canon SX40 HS
1

I don't manage to achieve the Bokeh effect with my camera.

I only manage to get a blurry background by using the 'Macro' settings on my camera and bring the main object really close so it covers about 80% of the image.

I played around with the aperture and my AF-frame to try to focus the lens on objects nearby (taking portraits of people for example) but I never get this bokeh effect.

It's really frustrating as I also have a Samsung S8 and with this phone it's pretty easy to achieve the effect by just tapping on the screen on where you want to focus and the background is immediately blurred.  I tested taking the same pictures with the phone and the camera.

Thanks for your help, I must be missing something.
