Help - 16-35 comes to a hard stop at 24 when zooming out

16-35 f/4L IS. Can zoom from 24mm to 35mm fine, but I can't zoom it out past 24mm. There's a hard stop as though it reaches the end of the normal zoom range! This is even the case when not on the camera.

Not sure what happened to it. I was on a trip but did not take this one with me. Got back home and tried to use it and ran into this issue.

I don't recall if the rear lens is supposed to move back to the very back of the lens body when zoomed to 16mm or not.  When at 24mm it does come up to the internal area that looks like a screw mount.  I'm not good with mechanical things so not really sure how to describe it.

Has anyone had something like this happen, and any thoughts?  Thanks!

If it's a *Single* Lens Reflex, why do I need so many lenses?
