Tamron 17-50 F2.8: VC or not?

So i want to upgrade my 18-55 IS STM, and have been looking for a fast zoom. I'm in a dilemma. I narrowed it down to three used options based on my very low budget. Tamron 17-50 f2.8, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC and the Sigma 17-50 f2.8. I heard that the non-vc is a little bit sharper compared to the VC. Is tamron's VC too good to skip on? How do these lenses compare? Any alternatives you can suggest? Thanks!
