Nikon 85mm 1.8 G vs alternatives

I am not buying yet, just pondering. But looking at later on, a nice portrait prime and maybe a couple others. Right now I use two zooms for sport.

I am hearing that the alternatives such as the Tamron 85 VC etc really challenge and compare well vs the Nikon 85mm 1.8.

When I look on flickr etc, I am finding it hard to see any advantage in the others, even the Nikon 85mm 1.4, compared to the Nikon 1.8.

In fact, the 85MM 1.8 seems to have a certain look that works with portraits.

Maybe just me?

I am not impressed by the 85mm 1.4 Nikon, nor the Tamron.

The Sigma 1.4 Art and even the older SIgma, both look great, but at $$$ twice the price.

Plus, at under USD500, the 85mm is the 'right' price too.

For a stunning lens, one pays more, but I am just not seeing that 'stunning', aside from the Sigma.

To me, the 85mm 1.8 is actually that one for me, with the Sigma.

Glancing through the photos taken with the lenses, the others do not stand out.  These two do.

What do you folks think about the various 85mm lerses?

Thanks.
