Re: better off with Panasonic sharper 1080p or 4K

In my experience, Canon cameras need proper setup for improved 1080p video. I can tell you that the only acceptable 1080p video I was able to get with SL2 is when using Fine Detail picture profile (1080/60p). One of the issue is that SL2 (and 80d) does not allow any control over NR in video which is very aggressive by default and contributes to overall softness. Increasing sharpening introduces artifcats. But FD picture style works different: it seems to have correct sharpening settings backed in. Reducing sharpening all the way down in/camera and adjusting it in post works well only with ALL-I codec but with IPB it looks worse than achieving it right in camera, in my experience. Try 60p, shutter 1/125, ISO no higher than 800 and picture style - FD. This us a magic formula that worked for me well for both SL2 and 5div. One thing is for sure, 5div 1080/60p high bitrate ALL-I 180mbps footage looks much better than anything out of SL2.

Thanks for the information. Do we get better video IQ from 80d with same IPB codec? 80d deosn't support All-i with 60p. But 30p, it is possible. Shooting in ALL-I codec and converting it on laptop is a better approach with 80d? Do we notice difference between 80d and SL2 with same codec.

Thanks
