Differences between lighting a photo with aperture, shutter, and iso?

hey just really beginning to learn the technical side of photography and taking it off auto. Even with reading a few things I am confused as to what and why I should raise/lower iso to light an image as opposed to using aperture or shutter. Also is there any specific reasons I would use the aperture and/or P mode on the camera dial as opposed to going full manual? Thanks...
