A perspective on photographic gear vs skill of a photographer
3

Tangible assets (for example gears, accessories, funds to travel to locations, a studio, a model, other manpower perhaps and even equipment servicing etc) are necessary to the operations of a photographer.

Intangible assets such as skill, experience, competence, patience, judgement and physical health are necessary for competitive success of a photograph.

In short, physical, human and financial resources are necessary to take a photograph.  But even that won’t produce a masterpiece.  For that to happen,  something extra is needed - the photographer’s artistic sense and techniques are needed.  Basically his/her invisible skills.

(Adapted from Hiroyuki Itami’s 1991 book on ‘Mobilizing Invisible Assets’.)

Do you agree?
