Which combination produces shallower DOF?

APS-C w/50mm f/1.4 or FF w/50mm f/1.8; I checked the DOF calculator, but I think the results aren't perfect because I think the FF should make for shallower DOF. I'm trying to get a new camera for achieving the Brenizer method; I know 50mm isn't necessarily the best, but I'm on a budget and am debating between a Nikon D7100 and Sony A7.
