The so-called advantages of an EVF
3

For some months now, I am a quite happy owner of an M5. I like it for its good IQ, low weight and small lenses. But whenever weight is not an issue, I prefer my 80D always. Maybe I am just a DSLR type of guy...

But regarding EVF something puzzles me. In almost every review where the pros and cons of EVF vs. OVF vs. LCD is discussed, you can read that an EVF is much better at harsh sunlight compared to the LCD. My experience differs:

Whenever I have direct sunlight from either one side hitting my eyes, I can hardly see anything in the EVF of my M5. Even the LCD is brighter and has more contrast. I have set the EVF to maximum brightness and the LCD to normal brightness. Is the EVF of the M5 so dark or low-contrast? Or is Canon's LCD so good? On my DSLR I never have this problem.

I have another issue with detail. My eyesight is very good. And I missing detail. With the DSLR I can see so much more detail at a much better dynamic range. I am quite sure that the quality of EVF will become better and better, but I think it will still take a long time, until EVF are on par with DSLR regarding detail. Am I wrong?

I am curious to hear your experiences!
