The D700 produces beautiful images despite it lacking in certain areas when compared to modern sensors. My personal fave sensor is that of the D4, Df. I prefer the rendering of this sensor over any other period.

It is also true that lenses are often a better investment as cameras seem to be redesigned every other year lol

But... and this could be a big but !

Your lenses are likely to last... but how about the camera ?

A D810 will give you a reassuring longevity !  Plus it will bring some new life to your existing lenses. The 1.2 crop mode is very handy and sacrifices very little. In terms of personal gains.... in your case I would opt for a D810 solution. Mostly because I think this is where you would gain the most amount of pleasure !
