I think your pano is one of the best way to capture the view from that vantage point. I like how you included the shrubs on either side. I was there a couple of days ago and the snow has melted off the rocks and much the mountain slope on the right, but there's still plenty of snow otherwise.

2nd comment. Just looked on Google Earth and noticed you can drive right up to the lake.My knees don't enjoy hiking any longer. Been up CA 395 3 times and if I ever make it again, it looks like a morning/sunrise shot.

Thanks again for posting and comments.

Hi Bill,

I think it is a fine shot, I expect the sky was not so memorable so fine to crop it off. And the pano layout works well.

What software did you use to stitch your pano?

Yes, sky was nothing to rave about and I also cropped it a bit tighter top-bottom as I wanted 3:1 aspect ratio, however now that I've looked at this a bit I think that it might look bit better with just tad bit lower ratio, slight bit more lake & sky.

This was stitched and post processed in LR6.

Thanks/Bill

Kent, yeah this is more than an easy place to get to. It was a strenuous 1/2 minute walk to place the camera after parking the car ;)

I think sunrise would work, and maybe be quite stunning depending on weather, clouds, etc. Sunset, I kind of doubt that as the sun sets across the lake below the peaks. In general I've had better luck on the Eastern side of the Sierra's by dragging my butt out of bed early and going for shots a dawn, early morning.

Yes, it is a great sunrise shot. This was taken shortly after sunrise in the fall (October).

Indeed, nice shot. Fall is so nice on the Eastern side - I have to say tho, I went this last October, right about middle of the month and visited several locations from Bishop up to Bridgeport; it was pretty but overall did not seem to me like a 'great' color showing - I have seem better years.

Beautiful. It should be hanging on a wall in a fancy log cabin!

Cheers

Beautiful pano of a lovely place! Cindy

Great shot. I have been going to Convict for 60 years; but, never got to see it in the winter snow. Not to hijack your thread; but, here's a shot of Rock Creek Lake in the morning (a bit before the Convict Lake turn off). Hope you don't mind. :-)

I agree. A terrific shot that could use just a bit more sky.

Very well done!

Off of 395, there are other places with great scenery right by the road. West of Bridgeport, there are the Twin Lakes and Virginia Lakes. South of there, you have Lundy Lake/Canyon. I'm sure you're familiar with Mono Lake nearby.

Lundy Canyon with a crappy sunset sky. Right next to the dirt road.

West of Bishop, you can drive to Lake Sabrina, but the drive to South Lake is absolutely spectacular.

If you can hike ok on fairly flat ground, the hikes at the 20 Lakes Basin and Little Lakes Valley are awesome. The scenery is as good as anything in Yosemite and there are no extended uphill climbs.

20 Lakes Basin. Taken in the daytime, but you see the potential. Surprisingly easy hiking.
