Got it working! Purchased a different hot shoe PC connector. Put the camera in manual mode, shutter less than 180, manual ISO, flash set to on, and it worked!

That's nice !

BTW: I do not know what flash you use and also maybe you know my point already:

you can combine a strobe or non P-TTL flash with your P-TTL pop up flash or an P-TTL flash. The camera do it's normal P-TTL protocol (pre flash and so on) and the flash get at the end the main flash command signal from the centre contact (so long you stay at or under 1/180). Therefore, all other non P-TTL flash (or radio trigger) which use only the centre contact, do fire than too.

Pentax have some own cables and hot shoe adapter:

- one of them you can mount on your cameras hot shoe and is for to connect only a cable, but this type has a special form, that it let you still pop up your camera's flash.

via this hot shoe adapter you can connect your radio trigger or an other flash, meanwhile you use your pop up flash (maybe for fill light)

But that solution need : this hot shoe adapter, a cable, and an other Pentax hot shoe adapter at the other end of the cable.
