Hello ! Great shots by everybody ! I wanted to know how this lens compares to the Tamron SP 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 DI VC USD ? I'm on the lookout for a telephoto to pair with my D7200.

The main problem with the Tamron is size/weight, and a slight sensitivity to veiling flare. And the switches on the barrel are easily knocked out of place, as with many Tamron lenses (I eventually taped mine over). It is probably best at f/8, while the Nikon is perfect at f/7.1!

The Nikon is smaller, lighter, but doesn't work too well with FX bodies (it isn't designed for FX, so).

Have shot thousands of shots with the Tamron, somewhat fewer with the Nikon (bought it late fall). The Nikon is perfectly balanced with a light DX body, the Tamron is perfect with a light FX body, like the D600.

I think I prefer the Nikon, but I would have liked some switches on it (AF/M, limiter, and so on), but it has none.
