That is correct about the 622's. I use the 603's as I have different brands of flash and can fire all of them with them; 622's when I'm just using Canon. And they will fire the camera remotely.

I've just received the 603C II + C1 cable and all in all a lot of nice improvements, eg identical units, on/off switch in good position, cable can go in either way.  The one thing that is missing is a tripod mount - ok not expensive but the 602RX had it in-built.  I suppose I could piggy back onto that.  Since my last post I have ascertained that the old C1 cable is dodgy and it feels like it must have broken strands, maybe from my hanging the controller rather than attaching it to the flash shoe?

A couple of questions/points:

1) I expected as advertised backwards compatibility with the RF-600TX but despite setting the dip switches there is not response from the 603.  Has anyone had success with this?

2) I have a few old flashes from SLR days, a Vivitar 283 Thyrister and a National PE-300 on which I somehow recorded 33v.  Do you know if it would be safe to put them on the 603s?  I'm certainly not going to put them on the camera direct.
