I've just recently splurged and got myself an X-Pro2. At different times, I had rented an X100T and X-Pro2 to evaluate them.
There are a lot of settings in the X-Pro2 that have a lot of different consequences - some more obvious than others. One thing that I am finding very appealing about the X-Pro2 is how it can largely take on a lot of different personalities, from auto-everything-point-and-shoot to manual-everything like a old unmetered square format film camera with mono film in it to an advanced camera with tons of information on the screen at once shooting in raw mode for later processing. One side effect of that is that there are a lot of different settings to keep in mind, and I've found myself forgetting to revert one setting or another when I'm trying to switch personalities to suit what I've got in mind at a given moment.
I know that I can configure bookmarks for access to certain specific settings in both the Q and MyMenu setups. I know for a small subset of the settings there are the C1-C7 custom settings.
What I can't find is a way to store or recall a set of all the camera settings aside from the external dials. By way of comparison to what I'm thinking about, On my HAM radio (Kenwood TM-D710G if it matters), I have a 'program memory' button which lets me pick from a set of programming banks where the parameters of the radio are stored - so when I select Bank1, it operates with one set of parameters, but when select Bank2, that's a reference for a whole completely different set of settings of the parameters for the radio. I can mess around with the settings as I desire to experiment, but I can get back to the reference point of Bank1 whenever I need to with a sequence of 2 button presses. Equally, I can store changes to the Bank1 (or 2 or 3, etc) setup almost as easily (it's a 3 button sequence).
This could be mistaken for a desire for a 'scene dial' with 'beach', 'snow', 'street', 'sports' pictograms - but that's only distantly related to what I'm thinking of. The problem I've always had with those scene dials is that they are fixed presets intended for the lowest common denominator. While I might want to have banks programmed with those names, I'd also want banks that are specific enough to a particular task that there would be no point in one physical dial position that everyone else would have to put up with just for that task.
So I'm wondering how do you folks deal with the vast array of settings choices - is there a feature I've overlooked that can do this 'save configuration to a bank' kind of thing? just come to one set of settings you are happy with and not change them? fiddle all the time? have paper cheatsheet of what to set?
