Interestingly, if you have the camera in manual focus mode, it does not do this weird aperture switching, and indeed you can validate that in MF mode, the exposure time does not change when you break the electrical contacts.

Tl;DR: No, Fuji does not appear to be "boosting" exposure artificially when shooting wide-open. If you want to validate this yourself I suggest putting the camera in MF mode first.

I have run the test and I can confirm what you experienced : shooting with the 35mm fully engaged and with the 35mm turned enough to deactivate electrical contacts, the resulting picture has the same brightness (I've only tested in all-manual mode).

So Fuji doesn't cheat on aperture

BTW, my 35mm appears slightly decentered but as a Fuji newcomer, I don't know if it is OK. A picture of my wall (yes the sensor was leveled and parallel to the wall)...

f1/4 AF centered

What do you think ?

Just in case, with the focus on corners...

AF top left

AF top right

AF bottom right

AF bottom left
