I've done several books with Blurb and have no complaints. I used their InDesign templates and was careful to never go below 300 dpi and the results were fine.

OTOH I have just done a short book with Red River double-sided satin paper on my Pixma 6725 and am even more satisfied. For the short stuff you (OP) might consider a complete DIY. I figure I will do a few more so I bought a Fellows comb binder. Saves a trip to Staples and after five books I am using house money.
