Re: About to dive in: Is X-E3 + 35mm f1.4 a good 'single prime' camera choice?
I am close to pulling trigger on the X-E3 + 35mm f1.4.
One things that has been bothering me is the lack of announced X Raw Studio support for the X-E3. I would like to shoot in-camera JPEGs, recreating my old rangefinder experience where I shot a roll of perfectly exposed negatives (with an incident light meter back then) and would always get back lovely 5X7's from the local camera shop. I like the photography experience to be in the moment, not in the post-processing. However, I would also like some limited ability to 'cheat' afterwards on some push-pull exposure adjustments (since I will not be using an incident light meter), and to switch film simulation etc. while staying shy of the Lightroom rabbit hole. X Raw Studio looks perfect for that.
There is a work-around though using the micro-HDMI output on the X-E3. I bought a micro-HDMI male to HDMI female adapter cable this weekend that will allow me to plug the X-E3 straight into my Samsung monitor. I can then do in-camera raw conversions directly displayed on my external monitor. And searching around today, I found confirmation that this option should be quite effective (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3399055#forum-post-51243691). Hopefully the X-E3 will get X Raw Studio support down the road, but this solution should be fine when I need it.
(Edit: It is true that my monitor calibration will not be applied - that is an advantage of X Raw Studio - but fortunately my Samsung monitor calibration was minimal and should not have a practical influence on my decisions.)
