I use to own the 70-200f4 back in the day when it first came out. I might pick this lens up as well. On hikes this lens would feel probably like a feather now compared to all the other FE lenses out.

I still have my 70-200 f4 so I'm in the odd position of currently owning both the f2.8 and the f4 in 70-200mm.

No I'm not keeping both of them - I plan to sell my f4 version to recoup part of the cost of acquiring the f2.8 (I wanted the shallower depth of field).

Anyway... there really isn't a huge difference in weight (at least to my hands) but the f4 is a good bit smaller in a day pack.

Are you kidding? The 70-200 F4 is nearly half the weight of the F2.8 version (840 g vs 1480 g). Despite the larger aperture the latter also has the advantage that you can use it with the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters.

I mean that in my hands (on an A9) they don’t feel very different - they both feel like heavy lenses.

I haven’t stuck them on a scale, what I notice most however is the size difference. That’s all.
