I think we are talking about 2 different things. All I am trying to say is the get the same composition, a headshot head and neck with a 23mm vs. 35mm, the 23mm is going to distort the face. Of course the distance of the camera to the subject is going to be different, to get the same framing as the 35mm, you will have to move closer with the 23 mm, and with that you get far more facial distortion. That is all I am trying to point out. I do not have a dog in the fight about lens compression or distance compression.

Dave, are you talking about the specific distortion character of the Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 lens compared to other lenses? If yes, then I start to understand. Otherwise a perfectly corrected 23mm on X mount should be the same as a 34.5mm on FF.

Another thing: Don't want to cause controversy, but 35mm FF equivalent is not the FL I would use for full face portraits anyway. I like it for full body, or half body shots. I think anything upwards from 50mm is more pleasing for this task. I know, now people will find plenty of photos to show me how great 35mm looks for a full face portrait
