It has everything to do with it.

Majority of people that spends $2k on body only aren't noobs nor shoots jpg.

Thus JPG comparison between these 2 bodies are largely irrelevant.

Sony spent a lot of time improving their JPEG engine in their FF lineup obviously because many people use it. And the A7 III is their entry level model in that line.

Agree, it's only RAW comparison that tells the real capacities of the cameras. If you only shoot jpg it might certainly be a good idea to compare jpg output as well, to get an idea how a camera suits your individual photographing style, but only as a complement to the RAW comparison.
