Yes, and it has new version number, which older SPP do not understand

It seems like you could grab that section of data from an older existing file, maybe with all settings zeroed out - and be able to replace that in just about any file, maintaining some aspects like date or model/lens info stored.

Not sure, IIRC new header (processing settings and some more data) is a bit longer. Well, you could try - section length/version is stored inside section data itself, if you copy these parameters correctly, then SPP may work.
