D5300 + 50mm 1.8G Low Light Question

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum so forgive me if this is in the wrong channel.  I'm mostly a Panasonic and Alexa video shooter, but I'm trying to help my friend with her Nikon D5300 for stills.  She was only using kit lenses, so after doing some research, I suggested she get the Nikkor 50mm 1.8G.  Typically, when I put a 1.8 lens on my Panasonic GH5, I can stay at relatively low ISO and fast shutter speed and get good results.  On her D5300, I have to push the ISO way up (over 800) and stay around 1/60 to get similar results.  Am I doing something wrong or does ISO just play a larger part with this particular model?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
