Zoom lens for concerts: 70-200 f2.8 - stabilized or not?

Hi all,

I have a gig coming up with a big stage, where my 100f2 might not pull things close enough. It seems that many concert photographers have a 70-200, which are big, heavy, expensive beasts. the f4 is too slow for me, so i'm thinking of one of the2.8 versions. Of course the the stabilized version would be ideal, but it's a bit heavier and MUCH more expensive... I can't shell out that much right now. I think i can get a second hand unstabilized version for about 800$ or less, and I'm wondering if I'll be disappointed. I'm not too worried about optical quality for concert photos. The unstabilized one is still good, and at concerts there are additional considerations: ISO is way high anyway, and corner sharpness is not an issue. Some performers move around a lot, which negates any stabilization issues, but I'm still worried that I might miss it. Any opinions from experienced concert photographers?

Thanks,

N.
