Throw away a good PIXMA 9000!?

I have used my trusty PIXMA 9000 for about 6 years and have produced many high quality prints (some have won awards in juried shows).  I have refilled my OEM carts with Precision Color Inks but now I can no longer get the carts to reset. I purchased a set of empty OEM carts but several of those too will not reset. I have two re-setters (of the same type), have put in new batteries but no luck. If I push and wiggle the cart around in the re-setter the light may flash but not fully illuminate. As a result I an thinking of purchasing a PIXMA Pro 100. With a rebate from B&H the cost is $150.00 a set of CLI8 carts is about $133.00. I do intend to refill the carts as before after the original setup carts are used. Do I need a different re-setter? If so any suggestions?

Any negative points on the PRO 100? So, I guess it is good bye to a serviceable PIXMA 9000.
