Is the M 50 f/4 macro any good?

My reason for asking is that I have been shooting some of my ancient slides on a lightbox, using an M4/3 body (GX8) plus a Pentax K-mount adaptor plus a Vivitar 2X macro focusing teleconverter plus a Pentax SMC 28mm f/3.5 (making effectively a 56mm macro lens).  It sounds laborious, and to be honest, it looks a bit comical. But the results are better than I expected (see below).

I've just ordered the M50 f/4 macro on eBay, and I wondered what kind of results I can expect. By cutting out the converter, it certainly shouldn't be worse. Does anyone use this lens for macro, the purpose for which it was intended?

Just for your interest, here are three of the pics, from slides shot over 20 years ago at Pagan, Burma. Only looking at them now do I realise how utterly crappy the 28-200 mega zoom lens was that I was using at that time with a Canon AE-1.

Some of them needed a lot of rescuing in terms of colour - I was hard up at the time and was buying cheap film from a supermarket. Kodachrome would have lasted much better.
