Trip to South Omo in Ethiopia... some questions about photography

I am planning to visit the South Omo region in Ethiopia in a few months time.

I would be interested in the experience of someone who has been there.

I am particular interested if the recent increase in turism in the area has commercialized the behaviour of the people there. To be more specific. I am opposite (from an Ethical point of view) in paying people for photographing them. Is this something that occurs in the area? I was thinking of getting a HP Sprocket and give some of the pictures to the people that i will be photographing but if they will be demanding money then this does not make much sense.

Also does it make sence to bring with me the 150-500mm lens that i have? Are there birds and wildlife to photograph or should i just stick with my 25-105 and 50mm lens and limit the weight that i ll be caring?

Any other suggestions?

thank you!!!
