In your opinion: what differentiates a "good" wedding photog from an "average" photog?

That's more true in the digital age than in the decade or two before.

Back then, a lot of not-so-good photographers were shooting whole weddings with 35mm film cameras, and that really wasn't good enough for group pictures of a a dozen people, blown up to 11 x 14.

Nowadays, equipment needs to be matched against deliverables, but any new Nikon, Canon, Pentax, etc DSLR and the premium mirrorless cameras would be fine, I suspect.
