When people looking for the photographer for their wedding, they look at his/her pictures, not books.

Yet unless the photographer is extremely popular without doing anything extra, that photographer won't stay in business with solid business understanding.

I often read on here someone wanting to go into photography as their own business and start out asking about company name and which camera and lenses not how to stay in business before running out of savings

Interesting, they ask photography related question on photography forum. Maybe they should ask business related questions on business forum or consult business advisor.

Of course if you are in business on your own, your fist and utmost task is to find clients and there are quite a few ways to do that. But if do not have a decent portfolio and decent gear, people will move on to the next service.
