Am I crazy to purchase the Leica 8-18mm as a beginner?

I got my first camera, a GX85 with 12-32mm lens, at the beginning of February. Primarily I create uninterrupted videos walking through city locations with a Zhiyun Crane v2. So the Leica lens plus a couple filters would probably double my investment thus far. There are a few reasons I like this lens:

  • Micro-step aperture for smooth lighting changes on video -- I'm not sure if this is common with other professional lenses, but it's rarely mentioned in reviews since the focus is on still photos.
  • Wider angle -- I anticipate using 8mm primarily. In general I like to use infinite focus so this would also allow me to have closer objects in focus -- primarily this becomes an issue indoors or at night, as I also shoot at 60fps / 1/125 shutter.
  • Wider aperture at 8mm would also help with low light.
  • Threaded for ND or polarizer filter.
  • Silent autofocus should I wish to use it.

Should I ever upgrade my camera, I imagine it would be a Panasonic (e.g., GH5 from current offerings) due to limited alternatives for >30min videos, so I could continue to use the lens. I have looked at some other options:

  • Olympus 9-18mm is a good price but has some drawbacks, particularly the obvious aperture stepping. At least I assume that's what I'm seeing here: (edit: timestamp doesn't work with embedded player -- skip to 1:20)
  • The Laowa 7.5mm is manual so would only work for me with stable lighting conditions.
  • The Lumix 7-14 and Olympus 7-14 are not bad but again the Leica has the edge on features and I figure if I'm going to spend $800+ I might as well get something weather sealed (Lumix is not) to go with a future weather sealed camera.

Thanks for any feedback!
