Fuji X-H1 review: A failure? (this is a question, not a statement!!)

... that is just one user's opinion!

So who would then after reading this review want to buy a camera that wouldn't be the first choice for wedding photographers, where image stabilisation is at best 3 stops, where the same image stabilisation - often mentioned when video is mentioned in the same sentence isn't good enough and other cameras at a similar pricepoint are offering better photos/videos/whatever.

So what's left is jpgs.

But that's about all.

Here are some randomly chose quotes from the review:

  • " Face detection isn't very consistent and subject tracking often fails if the subject as allowed to move beyond the central, phase-detection region of the sensor"
  • "For video it seems best suited to carefully held shots, as it doesn't appear to offer enough travel to compensate for large amplitude movements, such as walking."
  • "However, while very good for an APS-C camera, the X-H1 is still at a significant disadvantage compared with similarly-priced full frame models from Pentax and Sony."
  • "Dynamic range is also good: a little behind the very best of its APS-C peers..."
  • "Face and Eye detection AF not up to contemporary standards"
  • "When shooting stills with the Fujifilm X-H1 using the continuous IS mode, users can expect about 3.3-stops of added stablization when shooting with normal to telephoto lenses: a very good result. However, with current wide-angle lens we tested, this figure drops to around 2-stops."
  • AF: "Overall a good performance but not up to the performance level offered by Nikon and Sony models at this price."

...and then the dagger straight to the heart:

  • "Our only real concern is the camera's failure to excel in any respect, especially in the light of the competition available at this price."

So who would then buy the "flagship" (gosh I really hate that term!!!)

Reading this review I think that Fuji was lucky to get any mention in the Olympic discipline of medal gathering, I certainly wouldn't even remotely consider this camera after this review.

Mediocre camera with vastly exaggerated ISO (wanna have a look at the +3/+4 EV on the page where the X-H1 is compared to a Nikon?) and now also vastly exaggerated IS.

Not good. Not good at all!!

But: does this change your intentions regarding getting one?
