Congratulations Nigel. Your shot was obviously taken with care to achieve the best symmetry and was therefore the pick of the crop.

I made this visit on a day when my wife was in Milan, so I had all the time in the world for my visit to this palace. I always try to take my time and get the framing right.

The camera was on the floor shooting blind, and I have a whole load of skewed ones.

I tried to line the camera up with the floor tiles.

I went out of season which helped too.

Out of curiosity - if the camera was stationary, why did you choose 1/50s and ISO 1600 rather than base ISO at a longer exposure time?

The camera was just laid on the floor and not fixed to a tripod, I cannot remember the exact details of the shot but I was probably working at 1600 in auto.
