canon uk just announced the 2000D and 4000D £369 and £329 . Anyone short on cash can now afford a new dslr .

Just might inject some new life into the forum, yes they are basic but the 2000D has the 24mp sensor add to that the cheap 10-18,18-55 and 55-250 you get a great start for not a lot.

What's the point of the 4000d? PLASTIC MOUNT?

Prospective buyers won't care about that

Recycled 550d parts?

It's a low price model. You don't get great and modern for very little money.

The thing is, the EOS 4000D (aka the EOS 3000D) seems too expensive for the heavy cost-cutting methods used to produce it, at least for now.  We might well say it's normal for it to be dearer than an outgoing bottom-of-the-range model (the EOS 1300D) because it has only just been announced, but the better-specified and better-built new model which actually replaces the EOS 1300D, which is the EOS 2000D/EOS 1500D, is only slightly more expensive itself than the EOS 4000D/3000D.

Both the new models get the strange new X-contactless hot shoe, which apparently means they cannot use cheap, non-dedicated flashguns, and cannot necessarily support all functions of all Canon EX flashes either (according to Canon's publicity material).
