Re: X-E3, bluetooth & GPS geotagging, how well does it work?

I was also interested in this, so I tested this with my X-E3 i received last week. These are my testing results in combination with an iPhone 8:

  • Once you turn on X-E3 you also have to open the Fujifilm Remote app on the phone in order to establish the connection (You only have to keep the app open for a while, the X-E3 will appear with a blue dot when the link is established.
  • On the X-E3 the GPS symbol will then also appear after a few seconds more
  • Now you can put the phone in standby, a blue bar at the top will hint that something is using the phone's location, similar to the personal hotspot info
  • The X-E3 will keep updating it's location from the phone about every minute from my testing
  • Once the X-E3 turns off the link is lost. So if you turn it back on you'd have to reopen the Fujifilm Remote app and wait for the link to re-establish. Not sure if this is iOS specific
  • If you do not re-establish the connection, the X-E3 will keep tagging with the last known location for an hour or so

Overall the feature is a big improvement from the old (basically useless) manual geotagging via wifi. However since I have to constantly have to reopen the Fujifilm Remote app every time I turn the Camera off and on (which I do a lot during the day) this feature is still useless to me. I will keep manually logging GPS tracks with my BadElf and then sync the photos later with HoudaGeo. Also gives me more precise locations since it updates the location more frequently.
