As far as Canon is concerned they have released them. They all attach to the adapter. They should have released some pro level lenses and Eos m5 mark ii
This would cannibalize sales of 5DIV, Canon has many more DSLR to cannibalize from.So what is this new talk about Canon getting ready to "cannibalize" itself?
As far as I can see, the newest mirrorless entry is a cripplefest in terms of functionality.
"Cannibalizing" would've meant:
1) 5D4 or better sensor
LOL. Mirrorless with mirror and pentaprism? Or the old style rangefinder?2) 5 axis IBIS
3) EVF / OVF combo viewfinder
Any M- model already has it. M mount with EF-M adapter.4) Preservation of EF mount (perhaps even find some way to make this detachable for a true mirrorless mount for more options later on)
You forgot to add built in satellite receiver with free unlimited data plan for 5 years.5) mag body
6) weather sealing
7) 4K video
8) Flip out screen
9) dual card slots
10) Take no prisoners destroy the competition price of $1500
Well, All that is served to you only if you can eat it while standing on one leg....Some of us will gladly eat the plain oatmeal Canon throws in their bowl and be greatful when they add a little salt to it.. Others brands are now serving bacon, eggs and buttered toast with coffee and it is starting to smell really good.
The price isn't all that different. Compare the Fuji X-T20 to the M5 as an example. My guess is the X-T20 replacement is going to widen the gap further with the M5 replacement by offering IBIS among other features for the same price with an APS-C sensor.Well, All that is served to you only if you can eat it while standing on one leg....Some of us will gladly eat the plain oatmeal Canon throws in their bowl and be greatful when they add a little salt to it.. Are you really going to compare EF-M lens variety to the likes of Fuji or M4T? Don't bring up the tired excuse about using the adapter. What use is a small, lightweight body when you have to slap a chunk of metal to the mount and then a large, heavy EF lens? It's quirky, doesn't have that good feel to it, lenses I would want are non existent or insanely pricier compared to competition, etc. I would love to have A7R instead of M6, but there is so much to it, that I'm not willing to pay that price.
Read what you just wrote. Canon has you making excuses for their poor menu selections. When all you get is plain oatmeal it had better be warm, served fast while seated. You don't have to be Gordon Ramsey to expect this.I got used to the salted oatmeal, served on time, at warm place, allowed to sit on the chair, and not be afraid it willl be taken from me.
For the whole system, the price difference is great to huge. It doesn't work in real life to compare some "general setups" as close to each other as possible. The price isn't all that different. Well, after coming back fro Nikon mistake, I'm building my lens setup again. I don't mind to have the adapter on 55-250mm IS STM at all, then there is this small native 22mm f/2 gem, and I bought Samyang 8mm f/2.8, which is native. Looking for some more fun glass for macro and DoF playing (50mm-ish).Are you really going to compare EF-M lens variety to the likes of Fuji or M4T? Maybe, they do. So I went elsewhere to check other chiefs menus, and found out it costs heavy multiples to taste anything good, because what they show us is just a demo, If you don't pay premium and sacrifice some more. But that's exactly what happens. Canon is no Gordon Ramsey. Yet they do it well. Known food, raw ingredients, no overengineered blaff only good on paper. When all you get is plain oatmeal it had better be warm, served fast while seated. You don't have to be Gordon Ramsey to expect this.![]()
Compare the X-T20 with the kit lens (18-55mm f/2.8-4.0) against the M5 and the 15-45mm. The extra $150 is more than justified if you only consider the quality of the lenses. Add the additional camera features and it isn't even close. For $150 less than the M5 kit you get the X-T20 with the 16-55mm lens which is better than the 15-45mm, IMO.For the whole system, the price difference is great to huge. You can by third party lenses for other brands so that is a wash. I don't understand what you are saying regarding the A7R. Once you get past the 11-22mm and 22mm the EF-M line is mediocre at best.Well, after coming back fro Nikon mistake, I'm building my lens setup again. What can I have for A7R instead of 22mm f/2 in Canon camp? How big and expensive it has to be?
This isn't true. Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus all have very affordable systems that perform much better in many aspects. I own the M3 and the SL2. The SL2 is a far better path than the M5/M6/M50, IMO, if overall cost and lens availability is a concern for you.Maybe, they do. You can have the better breakfast for the same price if you want it. Some people can only handle the oatmeal or they get an upset stomach. But that's exactly what happens. Canon is no Gordon Ramsey. Exactly what I wrote. A general comparison. Works for some, doesn´t work for me, as I don´t use lenses such as these. That is zero points for me. Additional features? I only care about resolution, IQ and maybe AF reliability. Everything else is not what I would want to pay for.Compare the X-T20 with the kit lens (18-55mm f/2.8-4.0) against the M5 and the 15-45mm. For you, sure. While I don´t see the small pancake 28\35 mm option with Sony, It´s HUGE compromise right there. Not a wash. Great loss for me.You can by third party lenses for other brands so that is a wash.
Yes, once you take the sweet lenses from Canon, but that´s the point. You don´t. And that is end of Story for Sony in my book.I don't understand what you are saying regarding the A7R. Once you get past the 11-22mm and 22mm the EF-M line is mediocre at best.
Would you mind to actually compare directly? M6 plus 22mm, size, price, resolution, sensor performance? Then the 55-250mm IS STM?This isn't true. Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus all have very affordable systems that perform much better in many aspects.Maybe, they do. So I went elsewhere to check other chiefs menus, and found out it costs heavy multiples to taste anything good, because what they show us is just a demo, If you don't pay premium and sacrifice some more. Many aspects play the role. The magic of M6+22 is that it is small. That setup doesn´t have to be small with different lenses everytime. But at the end of the day, I slap that 22 back on my M, and I´m sure I´m taking it with me. Didn´t happen with DSLR.I own the M3 and the SL2. The Sl2 is a far better path than the M5/M6/M50, IMO, if overall cost and lens availability is a concern for you.
Nobody showed me. No chief, no customer. You can have the better breakfast for the same price if you want it. As long as we're going with the cooking metaphors:
1) If Canon is gonna cannibalize, they better get started on their meal quickly. SONY threatens to finish it before they even make it at this speed
2) I don't see why you can't have both cakes and eat them at the same time. Plop down the green for the A7III or any future successors (this is after, the "basic model", so I expect that the benchmark will start from here in the future with only improvements and no cripple-downs a la Canon). Buy the most recent iteration of the Metabones EF to E mount - which I'm sure is due for another version release soon. Bring over all your reasonably priced Canon glass to the SONY and enjoy all the native body features! Now I got salted oatmeal, I lovin' me some filet mignon, heck I even got several sides of top-shelf Russian caviar. Ramsey ain't got nuthin' on me at this point because I bought both cakes and get to eat them too. Meanwhile, those who choose only to stay in one camp will indeed be consigned only to enjoying strained rice gruel for inflated prices, until such time a discount is placed on the rice gruel. After a while, they will realize it was just cheap rice gruel in the first place sold for too high a price.![]()
If this were actually true, it would be short-sighted and would ultimately lead to Canon's demise. Being number 1 in sales in the tech industry requires constant innovation. Thankfully, you don't run Canon. I think Canon is trying to innovate where it can but the enthusiast crowd is fixated on sensor specifications and autofocus at the moment. It is soo very funny. All the posts about Canon is slow, dead, crippling, to late, to little, to expensive, to everything.
Canon just wants to be best in sales.
Obviously, many users in this thread say differently. What Canon and Nikon do enjoy is a high degree of name recognition.Users, pro's and mums and dads, are voting for the best camera (brand) with their wallets. For what they want to use.
Or... maybe Canon should be reading more threads like this one.Have a look at the figures! Sales world wide that is. And have a look at CPS worldwide services.
BTW.... why are you still here reading this? You should be in the canon boardroom planning effective strategies for saving canon from eternal doom.
I am.LOL Have fun!
Nope. PlayStation that isIf you were to poll randos on the street and asked them what does this or that company sell. the answers might look like this:
Canon: cameras
Nikon: cameras
Sony: TVs
Olympus: summer or winter
Fujifilm: film?
Sigma: sorority?
So, the uneducated looking to buy their first camera is going to pick a name first.
