First, I'm sorry that your trip fell so far short of your expectations.  Getting out to Africa is expensive, most don't get to do it very often, and these thoughts are not directed at you but at others who may be reading.

In my experience (and I'm one of the lucky ones who's been out there twenty to thirty times) the safari goers who are most disappointed are those who you out with a fixed view of what they want to see.  The problem is that while they are looking desperately for that one thing (and getting frustrated when it doesn't happen) they miss so much else of what is going on around them.  Better to experience the whole thing with all of your senses.

Having said that, extreme birders should probably be kept in theit own cages and rarely let out    OTOH, even when mammals are being elusive, there are always birds around.

I hope there is another time, and it goes really well.

And to the poster who said don't take pills rely on lengthy sleeves, you, sir, are an idiot.  Take the pills, wear long sleeves and trousers, and use repellant if there are mosquitoes around.  Malaria is no fun.

Dave
