We lost the war on privacy a LONG time ago! You are being spied on, all the time regardless of the computer, or phone, you use. It is being built into the global culture. At least the modern technology offers conveniences in exchange for the spying. In N. Korea, the spying comes with no benefits at all.

I don't think anyone should be complacent about the erosion of privacy! I just don't know how to respond to your statement that modern technology "offers conveniences in exchange for spying." If that is true, and remains true, we're headed down a very slippery slope!

No matter how well-intentioned they may have been initially, all governments and large agencies have become self-serving. Modern military organizations are for the protection of the system, and the privileged, not ordinary citizens. You think privacy is at risk now? Paranoia, greed, and the thirst for power will not let them rest until nothing is hidden from their view. Period. And they are just getting started compared to what's coming. The slippery slope is behind us, we're in free-fall.
