The real difference is in the extra RAM and storage you get with the A5, 3Gb, and 32Gb compared to 2Gb and 16Gb of the A3. That's 9.7Gb free on the A3, and 23.1Gb free on the A5. Having come from a phone with 16Gb to one with 64Gb, I can say the added storage has meant a lot in the phone's performance. I also went from 2Gb to 4Gb in the move so it could also be that the extra ram has been the reason the apps no longer crash. I can definitely say though, when the storage on my old phone filled, the phone just wasn't workable. I would have to manually run utilities to remove log files, app cashes, and whatever else, to clear the storage by a couple of gigs to have the phone work again. It was a pain and i wouldn't go back to a 16Gb phone now. The OS and apps just seem to get bigger, not smaller.
The screen on the A5 is 1920x1080 vs 720x1280 of the A3 as well. Since either phone can capture 1920x1080 video, it will be up to you to decide if it is important to you to have the extra resolution. If you attach to an external monitor, the A5 will do 4k@30fps where the A3 will only do FHD.
Wireless AC supported on both phones so that is good. The extra sim card on the A5 is nice though. The A3 can do dual sim, but you lose the microSD card support if you want to use the second slot for a sim card.
GPS support on the A5 includes Chinese satellite support, where the A3 only has US and Russian, satellite support.
Battery is larger in the A5, 3000mAh vs 2300mAh on the A3. Even with less resolution on the A3 the A5 battery life is a little longer. Both phones have excellent battery life. I don't see wireless charging support for either listed, nor fast charging. The A3 fully charges in about two hours, and the A5 in about ninety minutes.
Thank you

Thanks for all the useful information! Guess screen means more than storage for my moderate use. See that the A3 a bit old too. And compared to my Sony Acro S the A5 is not that much larger. But I will also look at Sony and others in the same class. Guess time is running out for a smart phone soon 6 years old. Can't get on the net and sometimes not ringing, only telling "lost call". That can't be fixed people (sellers) say.
