*New guy alert*
Hello, welcome!
I picked up a used SL1 recently and am excited about getting back into the hobby after many years. I'm mostly interested in shooting outdoor/wildlife type stuff for now. I have some questions on lenses I should be targeting.
Good choice. I must support other posters opinions.
I currently have:
-Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens (newer version available?)
A keeper if you don´t have some superior, many times more expensive glass. No need to buy newer model.
-Canon EF 75-300mm f/3.5-5.6 III
Get rid of it.
-Pentax SMCP-FA 28?-80mm f/3.5-5.6 (came with package, will probably sell)
Yes, sell it.
I'm eyeballing:
-Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM
Definitely get this one, it´s a beast for the money!
-Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM?
Good lens, but only get it if you REEEALY need that zoom range convenience, and you´re likely to carry bigger heavy setup, as this one isn´t particularly light and small.
I wouldn´t recommend it, although the lens is good.
I´ll highly recommend you these budget lenses:
18-55mm IS STM (doesn´t matter what version)
55-250mm IS STM
10-18 IS STM
honorable mentions and additioners in budget class:
40mm f/2.8 STM for its size and good quality
50mm f/1.8 STM for its aperture range and background blur capabilities
Kenko Teleplus HD DGX 1,4x teleconverter for good quality output when used wtih 55-250mm, to get 350mm reach from that lens
Youngnuo flash, some higher model. Cheap and can do miracles at times, compared to built-in flash. Radio control set for it is also very cheap.
Triopo tripods. Awesome value. Large and sturdy models for peanuts, carbon and light models for traveling.
Hope you enjoy your camera!
I agree. Canon has a 70-300 that is excellent. Same with 100-400. The Canon 75-300 is rather abysmal.
